VETO --- State Bar President Howard Miller responds to Gov. Schwarzenegger's veto of the bill authorizing the collection of annual fees from California attorneys.

 

LAWYERS WHO GIVE --- In recognition of their significant legal contributions to low income clients, as well as to organizations that serve the poor, several lawyers and their law firms received a 2009 State Bar President's Pro Bono Service Award.

 

DISCLOSING COVERAGE --- Beginning January 1, lawyers who do not carry malpractice insurance must tell their clients - under most circumstances - that they are not insured.

 

FEE ARB IN BEVERLY HILLS --- The State Bar Committee on Mandatory Fee Arbitration has scheduled a fee arbitration training for new and current Los Angeles arbitrators Oct. 27.

 

ELECTRONIC ADDRESSES --- All California attorneys must provide an e-mail address to the State Bar beginning Feb. 1, 2010, under a new rule of court approved by the Supreme Court.

 

ELKINS FAMILY LAW TASK FORCE --- December 4 is the deadline to submit public comments on proposals for improvement of family law proceedings.

 

RECRUITS --- The State Bar is recruiting applicants for approximately 200 positions on more than three dozen committees, boards and commissions.
