DECEMBER DISCIPLINE HEARINGS --- Attorneys and members of the public will have an opportunity to offer comments about attorney disciplinary procedures, competency and admissions procedures at hearings in San Francisco on Dec. 4 and in Los Angeles on Dec. 13.

 

IOLTA FEEDBACK --- Public comment will be heard in San Francisco (Dec. 4) and Los Angeles (Dec. 13) on proposals to allow attorneys to place Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA) funds, which are statutorily designated for legal programs for the poor, into higher-interest, pre-approved investment and deposit accounts.

 

ANNUAL DUES STATEMENT --- Feb. 1 is the deadline to pay annual State Bar dues. Statements were mailed to active and inactive California lawyers on Nov. 15.

 

COMPLIANCE DEADLINE --- Members of MCLE compliance group 3 -- last names N through Z -- face a Feb. 1, 2008, deadline to complete 25 hours of continuing education courses.

 

VOLUNTEER FOR A BAR COMMITTEE ---The State Bar is recruiting applicants for numerous committees, including the ABA House of Delegates and the Judicial Council.

 

JUSTICE GAP FUND --- New legislation allows for higher interest on lawyer trust accounts and gives lawyers an opportunity to donate to the new Justice Gap Fund on the State Bar's 2008 fee statement.

 

SEI IN SAN DIEGO --- Earn up to 16 hours of MCLE credit at the Section Education Institute in San Diego, Jan. 18 - 20.
