SENIORS GUIDE REPRINTED --- The State Bar’s popular Seniors & the Law: A Guide for Maturing Californians has been updated and will be distributed free throughout the state beginning next month.

 

18 CANDIDATES --- Ballots will be mailed April 30 to eligible voters in the five State Bar districts with vacancies on the board of governors.

 

JUSTICE AWARD --- May 1 is the deadline to nominate a California judge for the 2009 Benjamin Aranda III Access to Justice Award. 

 

“THE CLIENT AND BEYOND” --- The 13th Annual Ethics Symposium will be held May 2 at the University of San Diego School of Law, focusing on “Attorney Responsibilities: The Client and Beyond.” Online registration is available.

 

JUDGES IN CALIFORNIA --- June 1 is the deadline for attorneys and members of the public to apply to serve on the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation (JNE).

 

LEGAL SPEC EXAM --- The exam to become certified as a legal specialist will be administered Aug. 9. The State Bar certifies specialists in 11 fields of law.

 

OPENING YOUR OWN FIRM --- Now available from the State Bar, The California Guide to Opening and Managing a Law Office offers tips on everything from business plans to technology.

 

DEALING WITH STRESS --- Attorneys dealing with stress, burnout, substance abuse and other issues can take advantage of resources offered by the State Bar’s Lawyer Assistance Program, which offers services such as individual counseling, referral assistance, consultations for rehabilitation and private peer support groups.
