SOUND OFF --- Comments are sought on a variety of proposals affecting the practice of law: MCLE rules revisions, client credit card payments, client fee arbitration forms, guidelines for fee arbitration programs, resigning from the State Bar and open meeting policies of the Board of Governors.
NONPROFIT LEGAL PRACTICE --- The State Bar is conducting a study of nonprofit legal practice in California, responding to the Supreme Court's directive in Frye v. Tenderloin Housing Clinic Inc.
ANNUAL ATTORNEY DUES --- Annual fee statements were mailed Nov. 15. Bar dues not postmarked or paid online by Feb. 1 will be considered late and a penalty will attach on Feb. 2.
MALPRACTICE AVOIDANCE ---Seminars aimed at educating attorneys about avoiding malpractice claims will be held in January in Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Jose. Offered at a discounted cost, four credits in ethics and two self-study credits in the elimination of bias, alcohol and substance abuse are available. (Due to an editing error, the seminars were incorrectly listed as free in the December California Bar Journal).
NEW COUNCIL APPLICATIONS --- Applications are open for membership on a new council devoted to increasing diversity in the legal profession.
175 OPPORTUNITIES --- Applicants are being sought for numerous positions on State Bar committees and commissions in 2007.
