The State Bar of California e-briefs

BALLOTS MAILED --- 18 attorneys have announced their candidacy for a seat on the Board of Governors. Eligible voters in the five State Bar districts with vacancies on the board will receive ballots this month.

FEE ARB IN APRIL --- Four fee arbitration trainings are offered this month in Fresno, Visalia, Woodland Hills and Santa Barbara. MCLE credit is available.

ACCESS AWARD --- May 1 is the deadline to nominate a California judge for the 2009 Benjamin Aranda III Access to Justice Award.

13th ANNUAL ETHICS SYMPOSIUM --- The annual Ethics Symposium will be held May 2 at the University of San Diego School of Law, focusing this year on “Attorney Responsibilities: The Client and Beyond.”

CALIFORNIA JUDGES --- June 1 is the deadline for attorneys and members of the public to apply to serve on the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation (JNE).

SEEKING COMMENTS --- The State Bar is seeking public comment on a number of matters such as: reappointment of the Chief Trial Counsel, disqualification of State Bar Court judges, limited scope representation, bar committee meetings and fee arbitration rules.

SENIORS GUIDE UPDATED --- Pre-orders are being accepted for the State Bar’s popular Seniors & the Law: A Guide for Maturing Californians, which will be published again next month and distributed free throughout the state.
